Calling all Girls fans: TV’s most insufferable-yet-lovable characters are making a comeback. Fresh off the release of her second memoir, Famesick, earlier this year and the birth of her daughter via surrogacy last month, Lena Dunham has announced that her beloved comedy-drama series Girls is returning with five brand-new episodes. HBO Max posted a video Wednesday announcing the news, with the show’s creator and star video-calling her co-stars, Alison Williams, Zosia Mamet, and Jemima Kirke, to pitch the idea. “Okay, so we used to spend like every summer together, you know, doing this thing that we do, making this show. Is it something that you would want to do again? Are you free next summer?” Dunham asked the trio. After confirming that it wouldn’t be “too much of a commitment”, the three actresses then replied that they were all in. Andrew Rannells then joined the call while brushing his teeth and confirmed he was also down, “but only ‘cause you trash cans need constant supervision”.

Here’s everything we know about the Girls reboot so far.
When will the Girls reboot be released?
No release date for the Girls reboot has been announced, but HBO have confirmed production will start next year, marking 15 years since the show premiered and 10 years since the season six finale.
What is Girls about?
Airing for six seasons between 2012 and 2017, Girls centres on the unpredictable, messy and emotionally charged lives of four young women as they navigate relationships, self-discovery, moral dilemmas and career ambitions in their early twenties in New York City.
Who will be in the Girls reboot?
The reboot announcement video confirmed that the iconic foursome will return to our screens, with Alison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, and show creator Lena Dunham all reprising their roles, and Andrew Rannells slated to return. It’s yet to be revealed who else from the original series will appear in the reboot (Adam Driver is nowhere to be seen), but the announcement was enough to send fans wild.
The video ends with Dunham asking if they can still call it Girls because they’re “old as f**k”, before being cut off by the iconic theme tune and logo confirming that yes, the show will still be called Girls. No plot details or storylines have been announced, so until then, let the fan theories run wild.
